Thank you as well for the opportunity to perform at the Expo and the chance to meet so many new faces in the industry. Jim and I have a wonderful time performing and networking with so many other entertainers. We were absolutely blown away by some of the groups that performed.

I just completed a fantastic journey into the boundless opportunities during the Michigan Meetings and Events Network '09 at the Inn at St. John in Plymouth this week. I wanted to thank both of you and the great team that you put together for delivering this much needed event. The staff was professional at registration and helped to enhance my experiences there. I really appreciated the opportunities to get quality face time with the service vendors-where they not only answered my questions but broadened my vision of opportunities for our customers. The speakers and break-out sessions truly provided top flight working knowledge applicable for immediate implementation.

Then the biggest and best WOW! The evening's Tribute acts and staged entertainers were awesome! The 2 stages, with continuous showcases of great entertainment, was one of the greatest ways of sharing with event planners just what the customers expect and enjoy. We work hard for our customers and sometimes we lose the connection of the overall excitement expected by the Customers. This showcase recharged my ability to work for the customers and offer far greater experiences and memories for their planned events.

Mega-Thanks to you both for supporting Southeastern Michigan!

Sept. 29, 2009 Michigan Meetings and Events Network’s ‘New Trends and Solutions’ conference and expo -Program Recap:

On Tuesday September 29th, NACE members had the opportunity to attend the Michigan Meetings and Events Network’s Conference at the Inn of St. John’s in Plymouth. Corporate and special event planners, students and all the vendors who make events happen turned out for this event.

The expo from 9 AM to 6 PM allowed attendees to network with exhibitors and each other in between educational sessions. Attendees have expressed that the speaker segments were worthwhile and that NACE’s own Kelly Brennan, the Residence & Events Director for the Michigan Governor was amazing. Kelly shared some insight into pulling off the events she is required to pull off with very little staff, very little venue space, very little money and sometimes very little time.  If you don’t know Kelly, it would definitely be worth your time to get to know her, chat with her at NACE meeting, you will be glad you did!

The keynote speaker was Laura Schwartz, the former Director of Events for Bill Clinton’s Administration in the White House.  Laura offered hope and reached out by mentioning that we may be in an economic crisis but we should not let it be an identity crisis, we need to ask ourselves daily, who am I and why am I here. When you know your purpose and where you are headed, you are more likely to get there.  Laura discussed that as event professionals many things are out of our control, but we can gain the control back by managing the situation that is thrown our way.  She discussed the importance of impacting with people on a personal level and investing in our social scene through networking. When you meet someone, start by asking yourself, what bridges can I build to help you get to where you need to go’

Just after 5 PM, NACE members who were planning to attend the Taste of Michigan’s Hospitality Contest had the opportunity to participate in our 50/50 raffle and sit in on an hour program with speaker Mike Roman, President of Catersource magazine.  Mike was very entertaining and delighted the crowd as he touched on his thoughts of winning in a new economy.  Some key points expressed were to always give your clients three price point options.  Mike touched on the importance of creating a customer advisory board with five to ten of your best customers, he said meet with them three times a year to get their feedback on your marketing, your products, your service, etc.

The evening program kicked off with delicious food prepared by the Inn of St. John’s, Cafe Cortina, and The Henry Ford. Mike Roman presented The Henry Ford with the ‘Best of Show’ award and a full scholarship to the Catersource 2010 conference in Las Vegas. Congratulations to the Henry Ford, they won all three categories at the event!

Throughout the night, guests mingled while celebrity impersonators such as a Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Rod Stewart performed on stage. Later in the evening, Motown’s own talent, The Contours performed for the crowd!
